25 BLESSINGS: OCTOBER

CARING FOR OUR ISOLATED & VULNERABLE

Double Dog Dare (DDD) Challenge -  Serving Our Seniors

Entire month of October

During normal times, our elderly are often overlooked and isolated but, in light of the COVID pandemic over the past 18 months, they have been hyper-isolated and in many cases, forgotten!

Grace Fellowship Small Groups …

Join the Missions Ministry challenge to show love and joy to senior citizens in your neighborhood and Katy community. Your small group decides who to bless. If you already have a relationship with a senior citizen then plan a way to celebrate and love them. If you need help finding a senior citizen, we can provide a list of local Senior Assisted Living facilities or work with the Care Ministry to connect you with a senior in need.

Spending quality time with seniors really brightens their day and positively impacts their health. Your small group can easily bring smiles of joy and much needed spiritual uplifting to our seniors who are lonely, isolated, or in some cases, even forgotten! The ideas are endless … take and enjoy a meal together, run errands, mow their lawn or assist with yard work, create letters or cards of encouragement, play games with facility residents, play music/sing with facility residents, tell stories, listen to their stories, laugh and PRAY together.

Develop your plan and complete the Double Dog Dare registration form. We will contact you once your form is submitted and, just like our normal program, the budget for each small group project is up to $500. See below for guideline details.

Be the Church, meet the challenge to share love and joy to our senior citizens, but most of all.... Glorify Him by making a big difference in someone's life!

PROVIDING FOR THE UNDER-RESOURCED

Katy Church “Thanksgiving Feast” - Green Bean Drive

Entire Month of October

Grace Fellowship Church is uniting with multiple Katy area churches as we partner with Katy Christian Ministries to provide a Thanksgiving meal for those in need in our community.  The Thanksgiving Feast began in 2003 to ensure that no one went without a Thanksgiving meal.  What began as home cooked meals in homes and small church kitchens has grown to the annual Katy Community Thanksgiving Feast, with the participation of multiple Katy area churches, local businesses, service organizations and several community groups.

Thanksgiving is a special holiday that encourages us to come together to celebrate and give thanks for our many blessings.  It gives us an opportunity to reach out and share those blessings with our neighbors who are in need.  Like many events in light of the Covid pandemic, the face of the Thanksgiving Feast has changed. This year (as in 2020) Katy Christian Ministries will distribute a box of all the sides needed for families to prepare their own Thanksgiving Feast, along with a donated turkey.

Please join us in our goal of collecting 1000 cans of green beans!  Other churches will be providing the stuffing, corn, turkey gravy, cranberry sauce, pinto beans, rice and a pumpkin no bake pie!

Canned green bean donations can be dropped at the Ministry Center (Mansion) right outside the main lobby doors, in the large gray bin anytime during the entire month of October.  Regular size cans are preferred (14.5oz).

PROVIDING FOR THE UNDER RESOURCED

Feed The Hunger Social Distance Pack-A-Thon

“A great door for effective work” has opened for us during this Coronavirus pandemic (1 Corinthians 16:9). Never has the need been greater, and our ministry partners are poised to meet the crisis head-on. And perhaps never has there been a time when fellowship and service are so needed for our congregation and community.

During the pandemic, Feed the Hunger has distributed almost 2.3 million meals in America and overseas, but we have only produced 1.2 million meals. And therein lies the growing problem: we are giving out food much faster than we can produce it. However, we are compelled to do so because people are increasingly desperate—and pleading with our ministry partners for food.

Come help us celebrate 25 years of Grace Fellowship!!!

We pray for 500 Grace Fellowship volunteers serving together at this event to meet basic survival needs of the under resourced locally, nationally and globally! And please be sure to invite your small group, family, friends, neighbors, and work associates to serve along with you!

PROVIDING FOR THE UNDER-RESOURCED

Katy Christian Ministries Food Drive

Due to COVID over the last year and widespread changes to parents’ employment status during the pandemic, food security and good nutrition has become a significant issue for many households especially those with children not attending childcare or in-person school.

KCM’s food pantry truck will be parked at our Grace Fellowship campus (EPICENTRE parking lot near Mason Road) on Saturday, 3/27, 1-4pm, and Sunday, 3/28, 9am-1pm, to collect your food donations. If possible, please donate the items from their “Top Most Wanted” needs list below, although all donations are welcome and appreciated! When shopping for your donation, please consider buying a bulk quantity of one item rather than a mix of different items (e.g., buy a dozen of canned fruit vs. twelve different items). This simplifies your purchase and reduces KCM’s resources needed to sort, organize and stock our collective donations.

If you prefer to give financially, please use the link below to donate. Select Food Pantry from the dropdown menu and type “Grace Fellowship 25 Blessings” in the comment box.

Show your support for KCM’s Food Pantry!

We love The Ballard House and how their ministry takes such good care of families who have a father, mother, son, daughter or other family member facing critical, life threatening health conditions. They are so good at weaving God’s love, mercy and grace into everything they do there!

Our teams will help with landscaping, prepare a meal for residents, and our children can make encouragement and blessing cards for current and future residents.

This is a great way to serve with other Grace Fellowshippers while providing tangible acts of love to our neighbors in need. We would love for these struggling families see God’s hands at work!

PRAYER FOR THE UNREACHED

Prayer Walk for Katy Area College Students

All Ages are Welcome! We will provide some training on prayer walking so you do not need to be experienced in order to participate!

When people work; people work. When people pray; GOD WORKS!  It is a simple statement, but profound.  Prayer is one of the most significant things we can do for our community.  Did you know there are thousands of students studying at colleges and universities right here in Katy?  Many come from countries or cultural backgrounds where they have had minimal exposure to the gospel.  Let's come together to pray that God will work in these students' lives and that He will use us, Grace Fellowship, as a part of His plan.

We'll be meeting together at 3 different Katy-area college campuses (HCC Katy, UHV Katy, and Lonestar Cy-Fair) to walk in small groups around the area asking God to work.  Refreshments will be provided.

DISCIPLESHIP & SHARING YOUR FAITH

Share Your Faith Training

Many people like Jesus but don't like church! Our desire is to go to those people rather than wait for them to come to us! We will gather for some training and then go out into strategic areas in Katy to pray for people and share the gospel.

When people pray; GOD WORKS!  It is a simple statement, but profound.  Prayer is one of the most significant things we can do for our community.

LUNCH AND DRINKS WILL BE PROVIDED

CELEBRATING OUR COMMUNITY'S EVERYDAY HEROES

Double Dog Dare (DDD) “Challenge” Month

May 2021

Grace Fellowship Church, let’s tangibly show how much we appreciate our community’s everyday heroes!!!

Missions Ministry is challenging your small group to show support and love for our local community heroes … fire, police, teachers, medical personnel, nurses, veterans, active service, EMT, etc.  They are often under-appreciated, and during COVID-19 they continue to shine!

The possibilities are endless! Your small group decides who to bless and recognize. If you already have a relationship with a community everyday hero then plan a way to celebrate, support, and love on them. If you need ideas of groups to serve, please use the link below to view a list of local fire, police, hospitals, and Title 1 schools.  We want to touch the community broadly.

For locations and contact information of community fire, police and title 1 schools, please click on the following link.

Community Garden Service Project

God created everything and our children can help others enjoy the beauty of His creation in this fun project!  Join us at the picnic tables near the community garden to create milkweed “seed balls” to plant and help increase the population of one of South Texas’s most beloved pollinators--monarch butterflies! Everyone who participates in this messy but fun project will leave with seed balls of their own to plant.

Adults are needed for the important task of mulching the garden’s vegetable crop to control weeds and keep much-needed moisture in the soil. Please bring garden gloves, if you have them.

Stay tuned for our “Pick Your Pumpkin” event in October! For $5, you can choose your pumpkin from the garden and harvest it just in time for fall.  Your $5 will help support the community garden!

Not in MY Town … Human Trafficking 101

Not in MY town…Human Trafficking 101 is an educational awareness event to engage the Katy community in the reality of sex trafficking happening right in our town. We will explore what has been done, what needs to be done and allow God to speak to the hearts of those attending to guide them where their strengths can be utilized to stop this insidious evil from continuing to grow in our community.  We will hear a true story from a survivor who experienced being trafficked firsthand and how she found her way back from the depths. This event is rated PG; parents must make decision if material is appropriate for their children.

BRIDGES INTERNATIONAL'S WELCOME EVENT

Welcome New International Students to our community! We will serve in multiple locations in and around Rice Village.

Join us as we serve alongside Bridges International in welcoming new international students from all around the world to Houston-area colleges and universities at their "City Tour and Welcome Party".  This is a great chance to demonstrate care, hospitality, and friendship to brave young adults who have just left behind the world they know to study among us.

There are many opportunities to serve through set-up/tear down, serving food, greeting, transportation, or hosting a small table of students. Volunteers can help for just the morning, just the afternoon, or the whole day!

Our ultimate desire is that every student would leave the event having made a positive relationship with a caring local person who would consider being a friend, mentor or resource to them during their time in Houston.

Assisting our Isolated and Vulnerable

Hope Impacts Katy office and local storage units

The homeless community has grown over the last year due to the covid pandemic and the February freeze.  In response to that growth, Hope Impacts is expanding their opportunities to serve those facing situational and chronic homelessness.  In that effort, they are running out of space and suitable storage for the many donations they receive.

Join us as we bless Hope Impacts and the homeless community they serve on Saturday, September 18, from 8:30am-12:30pm by helping to build new storage shelves, sorting and organizing the abundance of donations currently in storage, bringing those donations to the new space, and organizing/painting office spaces at Hope Impacts.

All ages are welcome to participate in this 25 Blessings Event with Hope Impacts and partner in their mission of providing hope and dignity to those facing homelessness.

SERVING OUR SPECIAL NEEDS FAMILIES

Katy Responds – “Fence Rebuild”

Come join us for this great opportunity to “Serve Our Seniors” alongside of Katy Responds. This is a great way to serve with other Grace Fellowship Church members while providing tangible acts of love to our elderly neighbors in need.

We will serve a single grandmother whose home was flooded from the reservoir release in 2017. Her two children and grandchildren live in the home. She was not able to afford the repairs needed to her home so Katy Responds came in to finish up the repairs in 2020. While the repairs inside the home were completed, the fence in the backyard is still falling apart. We plan to complete the final touches in creating a safe, secure environment for this family by removing and replacing their backyard fence.

We also plan to have a team canvassing this neighborhood praying for families and asking if they need any rebuild assistance.

This is a “come and go” family friendly event, all ages are welcome to join!

Grace Fellowship is a founding member of Katy Responds; they have helped over 100 families get back into their homes over the last two years! For more information on what KR does in our community and how you can get involved, please go to www.katyresponds.org.
