Why we give...

Money is a funny and often difficult topic. Perhaps especially so in the church. Talking about money, and the giving of money can be uncomfortable. And, I’m grateful that we’ve been blessed with sufficient finances year after year, and haven’t had to be a church that talks nonstop about giving. Yet, the church can’t survive, much less thrive, unless it enjoys adequate financial support.

So once each year, and very intentionally, we talk about money and giving through our Annual Giving Campaign. In the season of our Giving Campaign, we DO talk about the church’s finances and annual operating budget. In this season, we ask the church family to intentionally commit to financially support Grace Fellowship’s mission and ministry.

In the upcoming church fiscal year (August 1, 2019 through July 31, 2020), we anticipate that the ministry assignments that God has given to Grace Fellowship will have a dollar cost of $7.8 million.

That’s a big number. But that number represents an even bigger story of how God uses the local church to fulfill the Great Commandment and the Great Commission.

Every year, your church ministers to our community, our region, and the world. We support over 140 field workers among our four unreached people groups in Indonesia and India. We send hundreds of volunteers through mission trips each year. In fact, 20% of the Grace Fellowship tithes and offerings are dedicated to missional initiatives.

We minister to hundreds and hundreds of our neighbors in the Katy community who are reeling from the aftermath of a divorce, a troubled marriage, challenges with parenting, the loss of a loved one, or deep financial struggles.
We pray for one another, and we continue to faithfully pursue the lifetime goal of prayer and praise being lifted up from our campus 24 hours per day, 7 days per week.

We are able to connect with over 1,000 junior high and senior high students each year, equipping them to be effective and vibrant Christ-followers in an increasingly confusing world.

Over the course of a year, our children’s programs reach over 2,000 kids who are lovingly taught to make Jesus their forever friend, and that message expands even deeper into our community through evangelistic events like Vacation Bible School.

Our North Campus continues to make disciples of all ages in north Katy, including many of our Spanish-speaking neighbors. And our A Simple Grace service is able to minister to those who resonate with a traditional service. We are able to help one another take our next step with Christ through relational discipleship in small groups, and mid-sized groups like Wednesday Night Connect, Alpha, and more.

These were just the types of ministry opportunities that Jesus was talking about in the Sermon on the Mount, where He instructed us “lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven…For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” I believe that Jesus was teaching us that we shouldn’t look for what money can do FOR us, but instead, we should consider the Kingdom work that money can accomplish THROUGH us.

We invite you to join in Grace Fellowship’s ongoing work to lay up treasures in heaven, taking the Good News of Christ to our neighbors here and around the world.
